IT WAS LOVE

My heart, spirit, my  everything

Longing soul cries out

To my Maker, Lord, and my King,

What is this life all about?

.

.

Just why did you make us?  Why, why?

Surely You knew we would sin!

Capricious, You are not!  Life of strife

Could never salvation win!

.

.

Winning nothing.   You had to die!

Proof of Your love that is it!

Knowing consequence You would die!

Sin’s wages You assumed it!

.

.

Everything known before it occurred

And that’s what omniscience means!

Perfect in knowledge, everything known!

Surely this is what  it seems!

.

.

We created free moral agents

The meaning I, I can decide,

Sure, where I spend the Eternal Life.

That Deity contrived!

.

.

Meaning, the choice is mine complete!

I decide my own fate!

As Judge sits in His Judgment seat.

I come early or late!

.

.

Sure late it is assumption correct!

Too late to say, I am sorry?

But who can tell where God is concerned?

So I missed the trolley.

.

.

But God was a mind.  Mind of minds!

Nothing improbable!

Thinking worlds!  Into existence!

So what  could be impossible?

.

.

He has to love with our love in return

While His love is consummate.

Desires same but cannot be controlled,

Though it some early or late!

.

.

That thief on a cross, “Remember me…”

Nothing halfhearted there.

His love, just now articulate!

Can anyone’s love compare?

.

.

Thief on that cross “Remember me…” when

What more was needed?

Compassion only Christ’s love in

His death conceded!

.

.

His love made Him do it!

.

.

the Sam  12.19.11

IN PARADISE, EVEN ME

Thief on a cross, many more like him.

Converted by Christ from life of sin.

Repentant, he comes defensively

Plaintive the cry, “Remember me!”

.

.

Without hesitation, “This very day,

Be home with Me, to live and to stay!”

Confess his sins?  Did not Jesus know?

Make restitution?  How could he go?

.

.

Why do we make it so hard to enter?

Christ standing there, the very center

Says, “This day with Me!  My home above!”

So we are accepted, our home in love!

.

.

He lets us know what He wants us to do.

Not cut and cooked, like, a bowl of stew.

Make it easier, like, walk in the park.

Do it by day, if afraid of the dark.

.

.

Did it for me, cannot remember his name,

But up in heaven it will be the same.

Will not fault me for a bad memory,

Hey you up there in heaven I will see.

.

.

I think of Mitch that twitching hand tells

Take to heaven cannot stand that hell!

A believer?  Yes, glad you made it, son!

War is over, that day is done!

.

.

Cummerford, Floto, no neither one

But how should I know?  I am not God’s Son!

He died for everyone by that tree!

Praise God!  Oh yes, He died for me!

DEATH TO LIFE

We rationalize or tend to customize

The not good things we do.

“That is not so bad” or “What is wrong with that?”

Oh please, get me out of this zoo!

.

.

“Whatsoever is not of faith,”

“Sin liath at the door!”

One little sin can lead to others!

Sin, does God not abhor?

.

.

Sin is why Christ had to die, you know.

Little or big, it is all sin!

Cannot customize the wrong we do!

It all comes from within!

.

.

The Devil made me do it,

We are so prone to blame

Anyone else but we ourselves!

Of course, I have done the same.

.

.

“Forgive us our trespasses,” Christ prayed,

Teaching us how to pray!

And “Father forgive me as I forgive…”

Is that not what I should say?

.

.

Dispense with all the finesse!  Do not need!

Just recall with humility!

God knows all the fancy words there are!

Just thank Him, do not forget please!

.

.

Please is begging and beggars we are!

In God’s pantry, the best place!

“Thank you!”  Is what I will say once I get home!

Thank you for Your saving grace!

.

.

He saved a thief on another cross,

Suppose He can save this one, too?

“If we confess our sins, He is faithful

And just to forgive,” it is true!

.

.

“Until death do us part” wedding vows claim!

In heaven not the same!

Our life starts with our death!

Is that not why Jesus came?

GOD CONTENDING

The “Heavens declare…” a limitless

Space, of course, unending!

God inhabits!  Oh, He is there alright!

And everywhere contending!

.

.

A thief on a cross, God there beside,

What more does this crook need?

“Remember me…” when You enter heaven.

He is remembered indeed!

.

.

“Today with Me in paradise,” declared,

Forgiven, converted, redeemed,

And there was not ever an altar call!

And that was enough, it seemed—

.

.

As a thief on a cross, God there beside,

What more do criminals need?

“Remember me!”  It is a painful cry!

He is remembered!  Indeed!

.

.

The right from wrong, He only determines,

Whatever the judgement pending.

Since the “Just shall live by faith in God,”

Many criminals contending.

.

.

I left the Marines in a borrowed car.

So long before you were born.

So this silly kid tried to reenlist, ha!

Rejected, of course, forlorn!

.

.

So I tried the Army, found my home,

Did expert with the rifle,

Sure, as I in the Marines,

Just had to add this trifle.

.

.

Figure this, no relation but another Cox,

Same outfit, news came in

Made expert also thought most unusual!

So what is in a name?

.

.

But no matter I am in God’s Army, now!

Forget all the expertise

To be His greatest, humble yourself!

Pray!  Down on your knees—

.

.

To the Christ, consistent, theophany,

Very person of God!

Can any presence ever be more real?

Than Jesus our Lord?

.

.

By the Sam 6.13.15

TRULY PENITENT

“Rejoice in the Lord always and

Again I say rejoice!”

It is a Christian’s prerogative

It says, we have no choice—

.

.

But to praise and adore the very one

Who died to set us free.

Not just for the whole world

But He died for even me!

.

.

Alone no longer, so many friends

Will love and share with you!

And even so many you did not think

Would make it, so very true.

.

.

You have heard of last minute turnabouts

“Thief on the cross,” just one.

Some wounded wartime just before death

Cry desperately to God’s Son.

.

.

Were they heard?  Well, just what do you think?

Would a Savior who suffered hear?

He suffered!  He died for everyone,

Yes, He heard and drew them near!

.

.

A Savior who loved a saint through life.

Would He not truly rejoice

To hear that last minute

Plead with his dying voice?

.

.

Yes, I believe my Father cares

And loves us equally!

Did He not die for everyone?

And did He not die for me?

.

.

“Come unto Me…” not just a few

But inviting one and all!

“This day in Paradise with Me!”

All who will hear His call!

.

.

Sam Cox 8.15.05

ALL WHO COME

What kind of fool I am though I long

For much more of Christ within.

I cannot seem to capture the song

Of praise in cleansing from sin!

.

.

He does cleanse, I know, when I beg

His blood that flowed from Calvary!

It is available still!  I surely know

Available to me!

.

.

I am not presumptuous, I know his blood

Avails for all who come!

The thief on the cross cried not in vain

He plead for forgiveness!  It was done!

.

.

Opportunities lost?  He does forgive.

Presumptuous I am not!

He forgave my calloused faithfulness

Buried my sin!  Forgot!

.

.

“…in the sea of His forgetfulness…”

He buried them long ago!

Upon my acceptance of His grace

And I have nothing to show—

.

.

Except forgiveness!  How deep my debt!

How can I just go my way,

Forgetful of all He has done for me?

My gratitude says, stay!

.

.

Yes, stay, abide in His tender love.

Divine forgiveness I claim!

How can I ever forget such love?

To live to please Him is my aim!

.

Sam Cox 6.7.05

MEMORIES

Memories, some good, some not so!

At nighttime thoughts of the past.

A flirt, so when I was not,

I was living way too fast!

.

.

Thrills of the heart, no not of spills!

Them I could take in stride.

But of the love life not understood,

Sure, that mad whirling ride!

.

.

Broken hearts, both sides mostly!

Mostly not love at all!

But pure lust, lust of the flesh.

Contributing to my fall.

.

.

After the playtime, what is left?

Self  incrimination!

Sheer forgetting that, “God is love!”

Never just intimidation!

.

.

His love is always and everlasting!

With harlotry everywhere.

All required a broken heart.

Sorrow, God is there!

.

.

What did Jesus do, one caught in sin?

Lifted her trembling hand,

Forgiven!  Yes!  Go, sin no more!

How can one understand?

.

.

Such love understand it or not,

But it is available.

The harlot, that thief on the cross,

God is willing and able!

.

.

Pharisee shrugs, “She will do it again.”

Same today, just the same!

Thus limiting God’s power to cleanse

Seeing only man’s frame!

.

.

Truly believe my Lord of Love, wept!

When Judas took his own life!

Self incrimination just not enough!

Must believe!  To end the strife!

.

.

Just believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and

“Thou shalt be saved!”

Take me now!  The Spirit cries as

New life, man’s spirit, craves!

.

.

Is craving necessary?  Must seek Him with all your heart!  Yes!
