JUST CONTEMPLATING

Just what is heaven like?  Not too much comes to mind.

There is happiness complete!  But mostly undefined.

.

.

Descriptions often swarm of favorite spots on earth,

Giddy thrills complete with laughter, chills and mirth.

.

.

But some joys more subdued contingent not on place,

Dependent not on fixtures, guy toys, or pretty face.

.

.

What then can we say about this vast unknown?

Paradise, Third Heaven, so much to Paul was shown!

.

.

“Unlawful,” were his words regarding what he saw. (*)

Kept true to his vision.  He did not break God’s law!

.

.

But I had no such vision or law containing me.

All imagination and guess what it comes free!

.

.

Does not the bible tell us to encourage one another

With our future habitation with each other forever?

.

.

Consider God, The Father, loving us the way He does.

Would He deny any to those He dearly loves? (**)

.

.

Consider too, the suffering He bore for you and me,

That we may live in heaven with Him eternally!

.

.

So imagine what you will, you cannot exceed His love!

For your complete enjoyment, He placed galaxies above.

.

.

Many mansions without end!  Think there is room for you?

Would not be surprised!  With everyday something new!

.

.

So come and go with me to my father’s home

Where it is not against the law to investigate or roam!

.

.

Where you will never be kicked out for lack of rent to pay

Play with the stars and the satellites all day!

.

.

Now consider Jesus, who for the joy He foreknew

Endured the cross, bore the shame, did all He could do–

.

.

To prove His love, take us there, Third Heaven, Paradise,

His greatest joy to take us home.  All by His device!

THAT BITTER CUP

Jesus cried, “My God, My God why hast Thou forsaken Me?”

Gabriel wept a waterfall!  He could barely see!

“My Lord,” he sobbed, “It is because you are full of sin!”

The Father cannot look on sin, now you are that sin!

.

.

Remember how you saw man’s sins as in a filthy cup?

In the garden as you prayed, tempted to give up?

But then you drank that bitter cup because You knew God’s will!

The only way to save mankind and so you suffer still!

.

.

How I wish, my Friend, that I could die there in Your place.

Could take the spear, the thorns, the nails, and the disgrace,

But sadly now we know that You alone can be the One,

Fulfilling scripture; “Lamb of God…God’s beloved Son.”

.

.

It will not be long we will meet again, My Master, My King!

In three days you will arise again all heaven then will sing

And mankind their reaction, many ransomed ones

Rejoice together evermore as God’s beloved sons!

.

.

Great place for the Hallelujah Chorus.

A LONGING

Remember the delight of children?

I recall being away

Then returning after a week,

Just nothing left to say.

.

.

Exuberance may convey the feeling,

Shear joy of father’s return.

Squeals of delight same contingency

But why?  The what discern.

.

.

Well, being gone now, he’s back to explain,

Is not necessary!

Father’s return means showers of love!

Gifts?  Mere contingency!

.

.

Not required, His love is enough!

Been gone!  Now he is back!

So simple!  So what is the explanation?

Joy shared, of which no lack!

.

.

Comparing natural to Father above,

The Father of us all.

Do we delight in His returning?

Or is death the instant call?

.

.

It was not too clear in distant past, but now,

Sure, now at expectant age,

It is almost as though I just cannot wait.

Cannot wait to turn the page!

.

.

But wait I must!  Still work to be done!

Thoughts are still, like, containing,

To be expressed, thoughts of Heaven still

Longing, preparing, engaging!

SEEDS OF DEPRESSION

Do I dare?  Indeed I do!

I dare to do anything that

Anyone would dare to do,

Preach, pray, sing!

.

.

And work!  Fingers to the bone!

At one time anyhow!

Dug a well once long ago!

Pure water came, I vow!

.

.

Others were agreeable!

Attesting I make bold!

It is satisfying purity!

Clean and pure and cold!

.

.

So cold, no ice was needed!

Refreshing on the hottest day!

Many others drinking it

Were never loath to say–

.

.

God blessed it and my efforts!

Proof consistently

That God, the Father, honored with

A miracle for me!

.

.

Across the road, Uncle John’s,

A well drilled way, way down!

Water plenty for the cattle and folk,

But to taste brought a frown!

.

.

Slightly salty and not cold!

So what, can we suppose?

A milk can full from my well,

So happy to dispose!

.

.

Seventy-five years later what

Is left?  Cannot quite say!

House, chicken coop, the well, defunct!

All seen a better day!

.

.

Do not know about the outhouse!

A good ways from the well!

Way, way back in the dark ages!

But how then can one tell?

.

.

Dried out, bleak!  Today main road

Either side farms, do not know,

Living things, cattle, back then

Does anything now grow?

.

.

Plow, harrow, disk, work the ground!

Kind to the stock!  They work, too!

Muscles straining, feed them well!

What is left now to do?

.

.

Anything?  Did it even exist?

Land grown up with weeds!

Everyone I knew is dead, just gone.

Did we plant the seeds?

.

.

Does not hurt to worry some!

Though it does not help one bit!

God’s Son died, we are forgiven now!

The brightest lamp is lit!

THE CROSS IS NO SURPRISE

Mary watched as Jesus stretched His arms up to the sky!

Then so slowly brought them down to His side!

No!  That cross was no surprise!

.

.

She felt again the shock when His hammer hit a nail,

A vision in her mind brought a sudden shock of pain!

It was the cross again!

.

.

A shadow fell just outside the cabin door!

The shadow formed a cross cast upon the floor!

She cried, “Please God!  No more!”

.

.

But she knew somehow the vision would not cease!

As the time of sacrifice drew near, they would increase!

The Father brought her peace!

.

.

Certainly she knew, “This sacrifice is for me!”

“My son must die for everyone to set us free!”

From sin and death!  The cross I see!

.

.

A memory awakes in Mary’s heart, one day!

A resurrection!  Death could not have its own way!

He would arise to live!  To stay!

(The cross is no surprise!)

.

.

From that cross He sees a thief in painful death!

But believing, crying out with his last breath,

“Remember me when…”  He smiles in death!

The cross is NO SURPRISE!

THE HOLY SPIRIT

A torturous death He claimed for me

Dangling up there on that cross-tree!

He took it and yet, hear that hoarse cry,

“My God, why hast Thou forsaken me?”

.

.

A Godhead presumed not amplified

Trinity planning side by side!

Just one God!  So how can this be?

Father, Son, Holy Spirit to abide…

.

.

And yet as One; The Triune perfection

Together, as One, yet with varying functions,

As God, The Father, created all things

Son, Holy Spirit, keep from corruption!

.

.

The Son was killed assuming sin’s penalty,

A death so hideous!  But did it for me!

And you, if you receive His forgiveness!

This is the Father’s solemn decree!

.

.

“For God so loved the world, that He gave

His only Son,” to die, to save

A world lost in sin, undeserving yet

Forever a sinner’s grave!

.

.

To live forever in that Heavenly Realm

And silence Satan, who would yet condemn!

Through Holy Spirit empowering within

Comforting ever and to defend!

.

.

Holy Spirit sent and abiding still!

Indwelling comforter, as you will,

Accept Him and His super assist!

Third person of the Trinity to fill!

.

.

It is a peaceful settlement given you

Another comforter promised, nothing to do,

But accept Him, just say, “Thank you, Lord!”

He will lead you into all truth!  Promised true!

(John 14:16-19)
