IT WAS LOVE

My heart, spirit, my  everything

Longing soul cries out

To my Maker, Lord, and my King,

What is this life all about?

.

.

Just why did you make us?  Why, why?

Surely You knew we would sin!

Capricious, You are not!  Life of strife

Could never salvation win!

.

.

Winning nothing.   You had to die!

Proof of Your love that is it!

Knowing consequence You would die!

Sin’s wages You assumed it!

.

.

Everything known before it occurred

And that’s what omniscience means!

Perfect in knowledge, everything known!

Surely this is what  it seems!

.

.

We created free moral agents

The meaning I, I can decide,

Sure, where I spend the Eternal Life.

That Deity contrived!

.

.

Meaning, the choice is mine complete!

I decide my own fate!

As Judge sits in His Judgment seat.

I come early or late!

.

.

Sure late it is assumption correct!

Too late to say, I am sorry?

But who can tell where God is concerned?

So I missed the trolley.

.

.

But God was a mind.  Mind of minds!

Nothing improbable!

Thinking worlds!  Into existence!

So what  could be impossible?

.

.

He has to love with our love in return

While His love is consummate.

Desires same but cannot be controlled,

Though it some early or late!

.

.

That thief on a cross, “Remember me…”

Nothing halfhearted there.

His love, just now articulate!

Can anyone’s love compare?

.

.

Thief on that cross “Remember me…” when

What more was needed?

Compassion only Christ’s love in

His death conceded!

.

.

His love made Him do it!

SLAUGHTER HOUSE RELIGION

We sing of the cleansing blood of Jesus,

Many hymns proclaiming its worth.

It is not just the death of our Savior and

Not just His miraculous birth!

.

.

It is more, so much more, just think about it.

What is the Passover all about?

The blood of a perfect lamb was sprinkled

Or Israel would be lost without!

.

.

“Behold the Lamb of God,” the Baptist thundered!

The significance was plain to see,

The blood of the Lamb, God’s Lamb, was needed

Desperately for you and for me!

.

.

The scarlet thread still weaves through the pages

Of God’s Book, this Book of Life we know.

It is the blood of Christ that bestows life!

It cleanses and “washes white as snow”.

.

.

Why is His blood so indispensable?

And why no remission for sin?

“Without the shedding of His perfect blood”?

Because there is no life within!

.

.

Life is in the blood!  We must surely know!

But that life died with Adam’s fall!

A fresh transfusion necessity

Of Christ’s blood prescribed for all.

.

.

Just the blood of Jesus, God’s perfect Son,

The blood man possessed originally

Before his fall from grace, respecting man,

The blood God shed for you and me!

.

.

The only way we could be made perfect

Through that ‘Perfect Blood’ God shed that day.

So that is why a transfusion is required

And cleansing in God’s perfect way!

THAT TREE

Jesus is all, he is everything to me.

He threaded me through hardships in the past.

The present is perfect because he lives within.

In spite of added hardships, this will last.

.

.

Jesus is all and in all, you have heard.

It is possible, he lives where there is sin.

Sin He became when He took upon Himself,

Your sin and mine, and cleansed within.

.

.

Nothing we have done to merit or deserve

Matchless mercy or His grace.

Totally free because He loves us so!

Justified, forgiven every trace!

.

.

Imputation, like, Jesus took it all!

His righteousness conferred upon you.

Redeemed, justified, adoption is complete!

Child of God, now what do I do?

.

.

I will live as His Son, grateful.  Oh, so glad

That He followed until He captured me!

The pain and the shame that he took on that cross.

I know only God could make that tree!

.

.

Of any tree but especially that tree!

VERY GOD, VERY MAN

I slept last night where Jesus slept,

My back against the wall.

Humanity passed by all night

I could not sleep at all!

.

.

Disciples slept the sound of sleep

Hung heavy in the air.

The pressures of the day recalled

The need for slumber there.

.

.

But Jesus does He not convey

A superhuman need?

A driving force He cannot shrug

To banish sin and greed?

.

.

He is very old obeying thus

The need to sacrifice

Himself upon a cross of shame

To banish sin and vice.

.

.

He is Very Man in weakness shown

Cries out!  In His despair

“Why must I drink this cup of sin?”

Let Satan take the dare!

.

.

“You are the spotless Lamb of God

Not one is without sin.

As sinless You must take man’s sin

To death without, within.”

.

.

As Very God and Very Man

The Father “hid His face,”

From sin the substitute His Son

Demonstrating thus His Grace.

.

.

So by His Grace alone we are saved (*)

Not works!  He did it all!

As Very Man sins sacrifice

On Very God we call!

.

.

ENDURE OR LOVE

Been there, done that, what else is there?

Is there more?  I really do not care!

.

Seen enough to know I have had it!

This life stinks though many like it.

.

Take a good look all about you

Real bad stuff!  Can do without you!

.

What?  Find a cave and hibernate?

Let all out there, inebriate! (1)

.

The world to hell is going fast,

I just do not see how it can last!

.

I just do not see, oh, now I see!

Loving eyes look down on me!

.

Those eyes say, “Come, I will give you rest.” (2)

Get in on the very best!

.

The best of life awaits you here,

New life complete and free from fear.

.

“Come unto Me,” do not hesitate!

I offer life!  Why do you wait?

.

This life receive now joyfully!

From sin and self you now are free!

.

You are free to take a revised view

Of those despised who lived around you.

.

The rottenness that you despised

You mirrored.  Now you realize

.

That sin is sin!  That is why Christ died,

He took your sins, was crucified. (3)

.

“My life to you I now impart (4)

To love the lost, to have a part,

.

In kingdom building, to set free

The once despised you will bring to Me!”

.

“Is this not better than the cave

A hermitage, yourself a slave,

.

To pamper self and judge all others?

Now realize they are your brothers!

.

Prospective, that is, bring them in!

Endure?  No!  Love them from their sin!”

.

.

(1) Get drunk, have a fling

(2) Matthew 11:28

(3) If they had not crucified Him, He would have found someone

else to nail Him to that cross.  That is how much He loves you!

(4) Jesus speaking!  Listen to Him.  In your heart He wants in!

MY WILL BE DONE?

I have tried in times past to dictate to The Lord.

Long since I have learned that He knows best!

To strive for my own will I cannot afford,

Even though, often times, His will involves a test.

.

.

A thousand tests inflicted cannot compare

To the eternal loss we could incur.

What makes us think this life is all there is?

In God’s tomorrow time is but a blur.

.

.

Forevermore!  Oh God!  Forevermore!

How can we possibly resist?

How can we not long for that blissful shore?

“My will be done?”  Do not insist!

.

.

My will can bring destruction in the end!

I now resign my will to You!

Dear God, there is nothing left within me to defend.

“Thy will be done!”  I will be true!

.

.

I have hurt so many!  I hate what I have done.

So many loved ones, this I know.

I long to draw them to The Lord each one!

I long His grace to all of them show!

.

.

What more can be done to have them listen?

Must Christ be crucified again?

No!  I reject my will!  I want Yours now!

Your broken heart, my cleansing I allow!

.

.

Cleansing all without, within, my sin!

THAT UGLY CROSS

Malefactor doomed in the eyes of civilized citizenry.

Thief, killer, outlaw, crucified on a rough hewn cross tree!

A Roman cross, oh yes, I did it!  I am guilty as accused!

Why did I?  Oh agony, it hurts!  Please let me die and be free!

.

.

What is this another cross, another killer?  So quiet now!

What is that, His bloody face?  A circle of thorns on His brow?

Those eyes they look at me as if to say, “Yes, so full of sin!”

No!  This cannot be!  Those sad eyes cry out, “I cannot sin allow!”

.

.

“My sin You mean?”  “Yes, and all the sins of the sinful world.”

The Christ?  Come down, a third cross, like, ugly serpent curled.

I cried out in rage, “Oh, stupid one!  This man is innocent!”

The Christ?  The Christ!  A wild burst of colors, like, banners unfurled!

.

.

I see it all now!  Please remember me!  Guilty though I be!

My sins are on Him laid, the sinless One, He dies now for me!

“Remember me (one for whom You die) when You come.”

Through blood He smiles and nods, “This day…”  Oh bliss!  I am forever free!

.

.

(This poem may not be beautiful but neither is the cross!

The thief’s only baptism was a baptism of pain, to stretch a point,

but God saved him anyhow!  Hallelujah!)

.

.

Oh how marvelous, oh how wonderful and my song shall ever be.

Oh now marvelous, oh how wonderful is my Saviors love for me!

A hymn by Charles H. Gabriel composed in 1800’s.
