HAVE SOME JOY!

One out of ten may enjoy poetry,

Maybe even less!

But you may know why,  why that would be

What I do the best!

.

.

Ever since my very first poem,

Accepted I have had the bug!

Even King David’s poetry, Psalms,

Not stuffed under the rug!

.

.

Sold billions of copies, in a Book,

Bible, you should know

Will sell even more until Jesus comes

Helps Christians to grow!

.

.

Millions have memorized Psalm 23

“My Shepherd…” God is near!

He leads, He feeds!  And satisfies!

What then have I to fear?

.

.

Millions take comfort, it is written,

“I will fear no evil!”

Your rod and staff comfort bring

Need not fear the devil!

.

.

Sure he tempts but he cannot force!

Christ’s table satisfies!

Better than Satan has to offer!

With his tempting lies!

.

.

What can be better than Heaven above?

Devil may promise joy,

Sure, the bilious kind ever ending with

Hangover to annoy!

.

.

And in the end, what promise have I?

Of satisfaction?  Hell!

Heaven alone, everlasting joy!

What else can ring my bell?

.

.

Or keep the bells of Heaven ringing!

It is so hard to conceive

Of a God who longs to have us

Home!  Cannot wait to receive!

.

.

Of course, the place He has prepared for us

So impossible to fathom

When God, like, passes a plate way beyond

Anything known,says, “have some”!

HUMBLY HOLY

Holiness to the Lord involves a truly submissive spirit!

A follower is set apart, one aim only!  Do not dismiss it!

“Be ye therefore Holy since our God, with us, is Holy!”

No one can measure up to God’s perfection, Deity!!

.

.

A man after God’s own heart!  We know despite some horrible stains,

Unforgivable our thought, who believe we have higher aims.

But man’s heart is deceitful and desperately wicked until

Touched by The Spirit!  Turned about and ready to be filled–

.

.

By and with Him.  Dispelling doubts as to who rules this heart.

God over all controlling, Leader, guiding from the start!

Consider now David’s sin involving a soldier’s life!

Bathsheba excused, unaware of any tragic strife!

.

.

David, in his proud kingship, thought unanswerable to any!

Thinking, ‘I can do anything!’  Make dollars out of this penny.

Had Uriah put up to the front where he was sure to be killed!

Make the way to marry his love, his secret fulfilled!

.

.

But Prophet’s subtle pronouncement tripped up the Monarch King!

With inevitable realization, “I am not above everything!”

A long period of Godly sorrow portrayed in any Psalms.

Until a holier kind emerged, sensitivity conforms.

.

.

What is holy about a chastised king?  What but humility!

For “Godly sorrow works repentance,” for everyone to see!

Not everyone!  For some cannot forget wrong deeds you have done!

Judas could have repented, could have been accepted as God’s son!

.

.

Does God have countless Angels who have nothing to do?

What bout the endless tasks that they are appointed to?

What about protection from dangers, some you cannot see?

Recognize their ceaseless tasks!  Sheer ability!

.

.

Recognize the conflict for your soul is going on.

Insidious the torment!  But comfort, rest upon!

ONLY A SINNER, SAVED…

Though a sinner God watched over me!

Protected my hide!

Bullets well aimed seemed deflected,

Angel by my side!

.

.

I knew I was zeroed in!

A huge uprooted tree!

In this deep hole left there,

He could not see me!

.

.

Machinegun out there, of course!

Somewhere in those weeds!

I cannot stay here forever!

My squad hidden in the trees!

.

.

Squad waits but time to move out!

Al hollers, “Sam,” two times,

Time to consider fearfully,

And remember my crimes!

.

.

Of course, I would not answer!

Did not like them odds!

Enemy with machinegun spitting,

Praying to his gods!

.

.

Help me get him!  Please protect me!

Like other times we would see

Just whose God was the real one!

I prayed confidently!

.

.

Squad waited, time to move out!

Al hollered, “Sam,” two times!

No chances of getting out!

Like two thin dimes!

.

.

Gathered all the strength I could muster!

A leap surprised even me!

Even so bullet left imprint

Inside boot below my knee!

.

.

Aim real good!  Angel deflected!

Always the head they aimed!

Many the shots were aimed my way!

Whatever the reason, retained!

.

.

For what reason?  How should I know?

Pastored, one sloppy job!

Did much fishing, many pools!

I was one slovenly slob!

.

.

Forgiving, my parishioners were!

And God has forgiven me!

Blessing some as the years fly by!

With God-given poetry!

.

.

David’s Psalms magnified poetry,

Like, among the very best!

Compared to my rhyming verse,

Just ain’t no contest!

ISAIAH 40:31

“They that wait upon The Lord,

Shall renew their strength.

Shall mount up with wings like eagles.

Shall run and not be weary.

Shall walk and not faint.”

.

.

Cannot run no more, fact my walk is stooped!

Slow with tiny, short steps!  Staggering,

But do not you know, there is coming a day,

I will walk straight without stumbling!

.

.

In fact fly with angels!  Look mom, no wings!

Maybe even be limitless!

Not unlike flyers in heaven, no death

Up there, I read, endless!

.

.

May not be too long, but must have patience.

I think God wants more poetry,

But many people do not care for verse, hey, good enough for me!

David’s Psalms plumb full of it!  Though not the rhyming kind.

But it is poetry, nonetheless, none better can one find!

Easy to read!  I find devotional time more pleasurable anymore!

Just think, will compare with King David, once I ascend to that shore!

.

.

Guess I can wait, knowing it is where I will go.

Still have to write about!

Leave that drawer plumb full of poetry!

Talk about singing and shout!

.

.

Will any other thing be able to promise,

More abjectly purposeful

Than the poems of David and me, also?

Promising the delightful–

.

.

City of God!  Sure and country, too.

Swim in that crystal clear river

Of life, if that is all I care to do.

Sharks, crocodiles?  None ever!

.

.

No so much more in that land,

Incomparable with any.

You must have thought of this place God is giving!

But the difference, not even funny!

.

.

Complete, absolutely incomparable!

And space?  Forevermore!

Plumb limitless the forever-ness!

That indescribable shore!

.

.

No God did not make a junkyard full,

For drunken derelicts!

He built a man!  A perfect machine,

But human as God predicts!

.

.

And someday all perfection!
