WHAT A HORRIBLE THOUGHT

Of course God will forgive you,

So go ahead and sin.”

That is what the flesh dictates now

Because sin dwells within.

.

.

Invited Christ to fill your heart

But then you put Him out,

Preferring all that sinful stuff

You could not do without.

.

.

So now we sin presumptuously (1)

Anticipating grace (2)

Rationalizing things we do

Like, spitting in Christ’s face?

.

.

Is this what David meant when

He pled deliverance

From sins of presumption, (1)

Joy in sins continuance?

.

.

Oh, God forbid!  How can this

Be a possibility?

With David, I cry out sincerely,

“God, deliver me!” (1)

.

.

He does deliver but there is fear

Of future consequence;

Is God in patience crying out,

“Get off that stupid fence?”

.

.

There must be a connection here

In this without a doubt,

“Neither hot nor cold but lukewarm,

I shall spew you out!” (3)

YOUR PERSPECTIVE

One foot in the grave the other on ice,

Is that the perspective now?

Our actual thoughts regarding the truth

Of pallor on the brow…

.

.

One foot on earth the other above!

Now there is a thought, mature!

It is nice to know where you are bound

Because we are going to die, for sure!

.

.

The older I grow more surely I know,

I am really just passing through.

My sight is inclined more surely each day

On that city beyond the blue!

.

.

If this is your perspective I know

You are living not missing a thing.

Your life is full, sure some pain now and then,

But assured of what heaven will bring!

.

.

Like peace and joy evermore!

THE WISE CHOICE

No confirmed unbeliever can inherit

Everlasting joy and peace above!

But the righteous made righteous be adoption

Are already ever living in His love! (*)

.

.

There is nothing that can separate believers

Who by the Spirit are reborn,

From God’s love who gave His Son to save us.

Can a child from his mother’s arms be torn? (**)

.

.

It could happen in this day and has happened.

But God has promised never to suffer loss.

The loss of any of His children who have

Arrived at acceptance through the cross.

.

.

The cross is historically factual

“Before Christ,” and after dated true.

Persecuted Christians gladly suffered

To gain heaven!  What else could they do?

.

.

Then you measure time to everlasting,

A ruler or math you do not need!

This beautiful life is but a vapor

The difference we all must concede!

.

.

So where will you spend the everlasting?

The choice is positively yours!

I choose Jesus as my Redeemer

To Satan and his tensile lures!

.

.

Calculus, you do not need to prove out

Or measure the best choice to make!

It is simple as knowing the difference

Between real joy and stake and bake!

.

PERSPECTIVE

The sun swept hill from the toe to brow

Is bathed in brilliant color now,

And doubly blest by natures scene

In early summers color scheme.

Appreciating all this joy

Is father with his fair-haired boy.

A hand is shading fathers eyes

He is looking out across the skies

Then down his gaze encounters blue

Far deeper than the lighter hew

Of cloud specked skies where seagulls glide

They too survey the ocean wide.

He sees the green of shallows wind,

And darker grow as depths they find.

A band of waves roll in and break,

And fleecy foam is left in wake.

The darkened sand once more turns white

As foam and water take their flight.

But boy, where is his gaze and why?

Does he with awe inspect the sky?

Does he have eyes for yonder sea

Or for that lonely scrub oak tree?

Is he, perhaps, engrossed with flowers

Or dainty fern that humbly cowers?

Nay!  None of these deserve a shrug!

The boy has found a ladybug!

.

.

WOW!

GUESS I LIVE TO LIVE

It was after that foray before it happened,

Other side of this page,

Told Al, our squad leader, “I am going down,

Find me a grave.”

.

.

Well, a place to sleep really I meant.

So I passed up about five,

Found a deep one and empty too until

Its owner dropped in alive!

.

.

Jewish boy just started with the words,

“Reverend, I am an atheist.”

So when this skirmish broke out, knew

I could not sign pacifist.

.

.

I tried to explain I was not a reverend

But he would not take arguments.

God’s protection of me, he assumed,

I was, like, heaven-sent!

.

.

How could I argue?  Just did not feel

Religious as they would say,

“I need sleep,” I yawned, but he would not quit!

No sleep for me night or day.

.

.

A grinning squad leader jumped our hole,

“Let’s go!” he said, “and do not argue.”

Off again!  Only he knew just where!

Enemy guns we withdrew.

.

.

Strategic he mumbled and that was it!

My tree was machinegun riddled

Found out later Al had told all!

Including the x-rated.

.

.

I had, like, spilled my guts to him

Including the preacher thing!

How I fought the call to be tied down!

I was such a ding-a-ling!

.

.

Decided much later it was all for good!

Survived on a banana each day!

Hitchhiked most states affordably!

And experiencing hunger at play!

.

.

Did God watch this hoodlum as he barely survived?

Of course He did!  And survived he did!

Through Sin Town, Las Vegas, a slot machine

Doled out enough, home my bid.

.

.

Where I found another chance at real life!

Azusa Pacific I enrolled

Got my degree with a burning desire

The preaching task my goal!

.

.

What do you know those predictions?

Did come to pass!

And I have a purpose in life now,

And a joy now, joy that will last!

.

.

A PLACE TO HIDE

Do you know Jesus as personal Savior?

Has He taken your sin?

Life of sin, like, wanting to stay

In that pit where pleasures begin.

.

.

Distorted sense of pleasures devised

By Satan to drag you down

To his level of carnality

Where pleasures wear the crown!

.

.

King pleasure!  Crowned with dignity

Assimilating joy!

Eventually taking over its

Perversion to employ.

.

.

“Have to have fun, like, once in a while.”

Of course, you have heard it oft’.

Until job and fun control the life

With church one hour aloft.

.

.

A devotional time or two a day

If you really devote!

Can make the difference that determines

Exactly how you vote!

.

.

For pleasure time or for the King!

Question, is He the King?

Is He really King of your life?

Have you invited Him in?

.

.

“King of my life, I crown Thee now,”

Is this your invitation?

Or is your life controlled by a

Subdued, like, consternation?

.

.

Subdued?  No!  Never stays that way!

But a sense of disaster pending

If perfect love does not cast out fear

In torment you are contending!

.

.

That perfect love, a shared love with God

There can be nothing beside!

Perfection is hiding in Him!

You do not need a place to hide!

.

.

Nor do I, Sam Cox 08.31.10

PRAISE AVENUE

Praise Avenue in the city of bliss

Built by God!  Cannot beat this!

City of Light, sure, heaven it is called

Just no sorrow or pain there at all!

.

.

No sickness there, purest health and joy,

This is what I want for this old boy.

“Like the Angels…” Christ said, do not require

Such substance nor do they desire—

.

.

Stuffing the body with food that looks good.

Less calories, I guess, it is as it should!

I expect with old age one just tapers off

Getting ready for heaven!  Now, do not scoff!

.

.

A spiritual feast we know little about,

The banqueting table cannot do without!

But glorified body not in need of food

Substance, spiritual, and always good!

.

.

So very good as the reference suggests

Banqueting table without all the mess!

Mess here, mess there, we eat way too much,

Substance only consider as such!

.

.

Of course, it is required!  On food we depend

Required the system to defend!

Spirit is willing but the flesh is weak

More spiritual food we need!  Must seek!

.

.

Food for the spirits, our scriptures, provide

Prayerfully we in Christ do reside,

But in all sensitivity always we pray

For spiritual food each and every day!

.

.

So we have food and there is food for the soul

This intake we do not need to control!

Cannot get too much scripture and prayer

Strength you will find as you meet Jesus there!

.

.

Strength we all need to keep strong in spirit

One thing is certain devil is not in it!

He just took off when we prayed the Bible!

Do what it says and you will not be liable

to sin!

.

.
