SAVED BY GRACE

Raised in India, British parents,

But American controlled.

Citizen fought in W. W. II!

As First Scout, leading patrol!

.

.

Many the scary ventures contained

Death-wish, do you suppose?

Stood down on a path, enemy in plain view!

Planted grenade, to propose!

.

.

Thinking that they may want it later

And they did!  I stayed awake!

Over the snoring I heard creeping feet,

Tossed the grenade.  What a break!

.

.

Both exploded, as I had hoped,

Someone exclaimed, “It is just Sam.”

I heard scraping as though being dragged,

Not a blink of sleep for this man!

.

.

“Move out!”  Order given, next day

“Where?”  No one around could see!

“Just follow us!  Trail ahead will take…”

“Where?”  Left to Squad Leader and me!

.

.

I had fixed my bullion and coffee,

Others opened their cans,

My liquid diet, after six months,

I had lost 30 pounds!

.

.

I had prayed for protection, as before,

Habit, I guess, but God heard.

Look, I am 93, think there is still more?

Up to nature,  not disturbed!

.

.

For me, God is still under-girding as

I keep praying for strength!

But not presuming as before

Heaven awaits at length!

.

.

Presumptuous presumably, no, no!  For sure!

But “I go to prepare a place…”

All He has done for me these many years!

As I have walked, “Saved by Grace!”

PARADISE IS (II Corinthians 12:4)

I have no charge from God to keep silent

Over things apocalyptic by device.

No vision from God of the future

As had Paul of third heaven, paradise.

.

.

So why is it considered ludicrous

To contemplate imaginatively

The joys God has planned for His beloved?

Fantastic joys for you and for me.

.

.

We are to comfort one another with these words,

Words about our future God has planned.

Many mansions, so do not be troubled

And positions for many to command. (1)

.

.

Considering the wide open spaces,

(I do not mean deep in the heart of…)

Desert land?  Not nearly space enough!

But galaxies God’s space up above!

.

.

Ridiculous?  No!  I do not think so!

Ridiculous it is to assume

That every orb that God put out there

Is as dead as Mars or the moon!

.

.

So why is it thought of as peculiar

Assuming live planets, out in space?

Did God create voids unpredictably?

Not a chance, considering His grace!

.

.

He is gracious!  He is loving and almighty!

And He said, “I go to prepare…” (2)

In His house we are told, “Are many mansions,”

And by God’s grace there is one for me there!

.

.

(1) “   ruler over many…”

HE NUMBERS THE STARS

Can anyone count the stars out there?

Like in our galaxy alone?

A trillion, quintillion, perhaps googolplex,

No countless!  The mind sheer blows!

.

.

Then there is the rest of the universe!

Forget the Milky Way!

Seems like a galaxy in itself,

Numberless stars displayed!

.

.

Our star cluster within this vastness

No mind can ever contain.

But to the One who made it all,

To God, of course, it is so plain!

.

.

“Without number…except to Creator God,”

Every planet controlled!

And named and charted to be used

As the future unfolds.

.

.

This only God knows surprises complete!

As His smile lights the way!

Untouched by time; His presence aglow!

Promise a brighter day!

.

.

“Many mansions,” that Jesus promised,

With a twinkle in His eye.

Was His reference to planets about

A thought to fetch a sigh?

.

.

Mansion to mansion, planet to planet?

Does this present a problem?

Not a problem to this glorified body. (*)

Through the Spirit to solve them.

.

.

“The heavens shout the Glory of God!”

That glory will not be diminished!

We will dwell in that glory, the heavens,

When for us it is finished!

EVERYBODY SING

Looking just what do I see out there?

Everything!  Blue sky!  But compare

To evening shadows, trillions of lights!

Infinity!  Foreverness, evening delights!

.

.

Just imagine flying through space by day,

Spheres soon takes shape, a planet I would say!

Speed of light then green grass I see

New world has it been waiting for me?

.

.

Heaven?  “I go to prepare…”

A place for you to with others share!

Towering mountains I see all around,

Ears soon catch a most pleasant sound!

.

.

Sight grows clearer and with ears attune,

Clear bell-like voices I hear and soon

A brilliant light shines everywhere.

I see singers thousands!  Here and there.

.

.

High on a hilltop, down by a stream,

Voices blend everywhere it seems!

Delighting to sing!  It is clear to me,

Soon I find myself acting instinctively!

.

.

I sing, soon each word rings clear!

Familiar to all it seems and dear!

Praising with tune words all seem to know,

Happily praising the Savior, we flow!

.

.

Through stream round hills to place of light!

Presence of God in whom we delight!

Do not fret though you are a monotone,

In heaven sing, pitch wise, and not alone!

NEW HOME

My new home, out on the sun porch.

Tell me, what can compare?

Beautiful all around and shaded!

Give up?  Like heaven there!

.

.

Close to, like, heaven should say

Any closer I would be

There already, instead of way off

Out in the wild country.

.

.

Should have said our new family home

Daughter and family share!

Contrary to what any may think

It will be peaceful there!

.

.

Daughter and husband, granddaughter, too.

Bedrooms, we use all four!

Shaded out there, like, call of the wild,

But tame!  No snakes out the door!

.

.

My room?  Delightful!  Grassy green the floor,

Walls light blue all around.

Peaceful in there and will soon warm up!

No crickets, no cricket sound.

.

.

Could be God is getting me used to heaven.

Accustomed, do you suppose?

But nothing could be as grand as that!

With immortality clothed!

.

.

But nothing could be that fair I contend,

“I go to prepare a place.

For you and will come again to receive.”

Nothing can heaven deface!

.

.

Yes, “Delight yourself in The Lord and He

Will give you the desires of your heart.”

Set your affections on things above,

And that is a very good start!

.

.

Heaven if fairer and so much brighter!

No need, I think, to pretend!

His Spirit bears witness with mine!

I know with a shout He will descend!

MAJESTY

My faith tells me that there is a land

Brighter, far than day!

If I cannot repeat what is already said,

There is nothing left to say.

.

.

Solomon repeats, “There is nothing new!”

Everything’s already done!

What we say has already been said!

Nothing new under the sun!

.

.

That is not going to stop what I have to say,

Though may have been said many times!

But has it been stated poetically?

In words put down in rhyme?

.

.

A catchy phrase can capture a thought,

That has been stated over and over,

But is it remembered?  Register?

Like, as you go out the door!

.

.

Like, heaven, we know there is such a place!

Christ said, “I go to prepare…”

If we cannot believe what Jesus said,

Face it!  We have nothing to share!

.

.

Aside from the fact that there are folk

Who have been there and returned!

I believe what is written in God’s Word,

These words are true, I have learned!

.

.

Often repeated the words Jesus spoke,

“I go to prepare a place!”

“I will return… Receive you to myself!”

What Christ tells you cannot efface!

.

.

Or assume as imagination,

Again and again repeated!

All the writers, specially Jesus and John!

Who repeatedly treated!

.

.

Though considered visionary!

John’s words I have truly accepted!

Do not knock it!  Many since have had visions!

Some we have not rejected!

.

.

All Apostles, other writers, too,

Agree on what Jesus said.

In fact, it is the hope that kept them pure!

Large portion of Living Bread!

 .

.

“I go to prepare a place for you…”

Of course, He does not explain!

I believe God delights in a surprise!

Surprise it will remain!

.

.

Until He reveals it, Himself in heaven!

Does God take joy in surprise?

Catch His appearance, His resurrection!

Smile as He opens blind eyes!

.

.

We are all blind until He says, “Behold,” then we open our eyes to see Majesty!

.

BUILDER AND MAKER IS GOD

What have I?  I have faith, believe God is true!

By faith I look for a country.  What else is there to do?

This country I look for is certain!

God promised and He will follow through!

.

.

This country, of course, I know it is there!

Where?  What is this place?  And to what compare?

We seek directions anticipating

A place that we all can share!

.

.

Not a place, as pictured, with steeples high!

In a far off Netherlands, mountains nigh,

This city, this place, God has prepared,

Jesus described it!  He does not lie!

.

.

“I go to prepare a place…”  Did He not say? (*)

A place where I will see you again someday!

A city, place, maybe planet somewhere,

My longing!  I seek!  I pray!

.

.

This body torment both daytime and night,

And I think I am growing too weak to fight!

Please come!  Take me home, Jesus, I pray.

Longing for that city so bright!

.

.

But I know there is something I still must do,

As I struggle through torment, He will see me through!

What is this task that burns within?

What?  So I will write a poem or two!

.

.

Maybe three or four or even six!

Sure, this is easier than toting bricks!

As God gives thought, I will just scribble them down,

Easier than a whole bunch of tricks!

.

.

God gives strength as I write then type them down!

As I long for more rest and gaze around,

Wondering what is here or there, anywhere.

Enough to accomplish for this ole’ clown!
