The chopping block, the guillotine,

The noose, electric chair,

The burning at the stake.  There

Was nothing to compare—

.

.

To the torture of the cross, with

Its nails, its constant pain.

Six hours plus, of torture, like,

Over and over again.

.

.

Did he have to take the punishment?

Or die on strangling breath?

(The consequence of death, of course,

“Sin’s wages,” you know, death!)

.

.

Of course He had to die (in sin)

Not His but yours and mine! (*)

The substitutionary work

Could only be Divine!

.

.

Deity, the cross of shame, (**)

What more could any ask?

He took the torture and the shame.

Now we can have a blast?

.

.

No!  Believe on Him!  Requirement!

What more could man desire?

Well, Satan too, believes on Him

And he is consigned to fire!

.

.

Believe and accept!  Rejoice in Him!

You cannot less acclaim!

How can you not rejoice, be glad?

He took your sin and shame!

.

.

Cool!

.

.

(*)  He was sinless!

(**) Not just the pain, the shame!

VERY GOD, VERY MAN

I slept last night where Jesus slept,

My back against the wall.

Humanity passed by all night

I could not sleep at all!

.

.

Disciples slept the sound of sleep

Hung heavy in the air.

The pressures of the day recalled

The need for slumber there.

.

.

But Jesus does He not convey

A superhuman need?

A driving force He cannot shrug

To banish sin and greed?

.

.

He is very old obeying thus

The need to sacrifice

Himself upon a cross of shame

To banish sin and vice.

.

.

He is Very Man in weakness shown

Cries out!  In His despair

“Why must I drink this cup of sin?”

Let Satan take the dare!

.

.

“You are the spotless Lamb of God

Not one is without sin.

As sinless You must take man’s sin

To death without, within.”

.

.

As Very God and Very Man

The Father “hid His face,”

From sin the substitute His Son

Demonstrating thus His Grace.

.

.

So by His Grace alone we are saved (*)

Not works!  He did it all!

As Very Man sins sacrifice

On Very God we call!

WHAT PROBLEM?

Do not focus on the problem

Unless you aim to stay

Within that messy problem

To ponder all the day!

.

.

The problem cannot solve itself,

Fact is neither can you!

You will still be caught within it!

No matter what you do!

.

.

There is a Problem Solver and

He is One you can afford!

He knows you and the problem!

So take it to the LORD!

.

.

That devil you are fighting,

You cannot win, you know!

That enemy is stronger

Let God destroy your foe!

.

.

When every hope has vanished

Find all help has flown,

The Lord had always been there

For you to lean upon!

(So leave it with the Lord!  Focus on!)

.

.

A simple word was all He needed

To heal the sick, the lame!

To cleanse a sinner, His blood applied!

And that is why He came!

.

.

A simple word, a broken heart

All covered over with shame,

He died to save us from our sins!

So Jesus is His name!

.

.

A simple word, they laid Him out

Upon a cruel frame!

We sinned!  He did not!  But that is why

The Sinless took our blame!

.

.

  •                          A simple word:  a manger bed
  •                               A simple word:  a carpenter’s shed
  •                                    A simple word:  a cruel frame
  •                                         A simple word:  a cross of shame
  •                                                   Can we then remain the same?
