THE STORY BE TOLD

“A child shall be born,” Isaiah wrote,

“The wonderful…Prince of Peace…

The mighty God, our counselor… (*)

Whose kingdom shall never cease.”

.

.

Jeremiah too, prophetically

Predicted the king’s success

Saying that righteousness would increase

Through our Lord, our righteousness. (**)

.

.

So many years ago they wrote

These prophesies that we know

Were all fulfilled at Jesus birth

Some two thousand years ago.

.

.

And still today the magic lasts.

It cannot be denied

Though there are many additives

The centuries have supplied.

.

.

Come, take a trip, a Christian church

Hear the message, yes it is true

Even the gifts that the Magi brought

We give and receive ever new.

.

.

(*)  Isaiah 9

(**) Jeremiah 23:6

BEEN THERE DONE THAT

I have done near all with not much left, the diving helmet thing.

Pearl diving, too, and from a high cliff just for the thrill it would bring.

.

.

Diving from planes from way up high and low, just 300 feet. (*)

Jumping with a parachute, of course, the landings not always sweet!

.

.

I have shot at and been shot at some very close calls, I think.

The auto accidents, of course, and spent time in the clink.

.

.

I have hitchhiked practically every state, had problems with many a dog.

Killed one, broke the jaw of another, and many times high on grog.

.

.

Spent time with gloves in the ring; won some, got beat up, too.

Gambled some, near lost my shirt, lucky to leave with my shoe.

.

.

Railroad, paint gang, (D. C. H. & S.) been there done that, too. (**)

Climbed a thousand foot cliff straight up, just for something to do.

.

.

Slept on a grave in a church graveyard, ten cents in my pants was all.

Darkest night then saw a bright light!  This time I heard the Lord’s call!

.

.

So I have preached to saints and sinners alike, buried and married a bunch.

Now I am retired and writing this stuff and three times a day I do lunch.

.

.

But that is not all I have, I have so much more; The Lord is leading me still!

With a lovely wife, family, and friends, and a mansion over the hill!

.

.

So “come and go with me to my Father’s House…”

MY COUSIN ROY

One of a kind was Roy, there will never be another.

A loving father and everybody’s brother!

.

.

Man of God foremost, seeking first God’s kingdom,

Preaching wondrous Grace, everyone is welcome!

.

.

That is the gospel buddy, “Whosoever will”

“Come to Me…”  Inviting the age-old gospel still.

.

.

No easy payment plans, like, the many paths of God.

Roy stuck with the truth, he walked where Jesus trod!

.

.

Christ who made the claim, “The Way, The Truth, The Life!”

We follow Jesus’ way or end in bitter strife!

.

.

“Come unto Me,” He called, “And I will give you rest.”

Have you ever done this?  Why not put Him to the test?

.

.

If your church does not teach this, better make a change!

The Good News that is the gospel, your life can rearrange.

.

.

Take it or leave it friend, this is not something new!

Old as creation!  That only God can do!

.

.

Good business something Roy kept in perspective,

Not a priority, sort of an elective.

.

.

“Seeking first the kingdom of God,” this was his goal!

And still his goal in heaven with God in control. (*)

.

.

I will see you soon, Roy!

.

.

(*) I would not have it any other way!  If you have a better plan I would like to hear it!

A PLACE TO HIDE

Do you know Jesus as personal Savior?

Has He taken your sin?

Life of sin, like, wanting to stay

In that pit where pleasures begin.

.

.

Distorted sense of pleasures devised

By Satan to drag you down

To his level of carnality

Where pleasures wear the crown!

.

.

King pleasure!  Crowned with dignity

Assimilating joy!

Eventually taking over its

Perversion to employ.

.

.

“Have to have fun, like, once in a while.”

Of course, you have heard it oft’.

Until job and fun control the life

With church one hour aloft.

.

.

A devotional time or two a day

If you really devote!

Can make the difference that determines

Exactly how you vote!

.

.

For pleasure time or for the King!

Question, is He the King?

Is He really King of your life?

Have you invited Him in?

.

.

“King of my life, I crown Thee now,”

Is this your invitation?

Or is your life controlled by a

Subdued, like, consternation?

.

.

Subdued?  No!  Never stays that way!

But a sense of disaster pending

If perfect love does not cast out fear

In torment you are contending!

.

.

That perfect love, a shared love with God

There can be nothing beside!

Perfection is hiding in Him!

You do not need a place to hide!

.

.

Nor do I, Sam Cox 08.31.10

FEAR, HONOR, LOVE HIM

Heaven!  What is it like up there?

“Golden streets” they tell,

“Pearly gates, River of Life!”

Happiness, all is well!

.

.

And that is where I plan to be!

Sure, do not care to burn!

So I will be good then I will be cleared!

No!  Heaven cannot be earned!

.

.

My goodness just is not good enough!

It alone will not do!

I go to church, I wash my neck!

My goodness stands in lieu. (*)

.

.

In lieu of God’s divine approach,

His goodness we cannot know

Until we glue ourselves to Him!

In His direction flow!

.

.

Cannot be good for Christ Himself

Did not make such a claim!

Our God in heaven!  Only He

Has goodness in His name!

.

.

The great “I AM” is over all!

In heaven sin cannot dwell!

God’s wholeness, holiness complete

Makes all clear all is well!

.

.

For heaven is perfection plus!

No sorrow enters there!

Just gladness, joy, yes, joy complete!

Earth’s best cannot compare!

.

.

Man’s goodness, far from good enough,

Sins shroud hangs over all!

In heaven sin cannot dwell!

It was Satan caused the fall!

.

.

Sins dark cloud will cover all!

Then how can we be cleared?

By bringing all our guilt to Him

The One that we once feared!

.

.

(*) in lieu of (instead of)

TIGER HILL

Above Darjeeling but highest spot on this earth of ours,

Himalayan mountains covering Tibet and that hill, of course,

Mount Everest!  Then 200 feet lower appearing, higher Kanchenjunga!

Appearing higher as it was nearer to that church overlooking the Jungah!

From that church high on that hill we could admire the two of them,

Snow covered decidedly; challenge to climb, to win acclaim.

I tempted not, many died trying, temptation the fame!

Acclaim of other men amounts to what?

To the winners, some large and some not,

Many the large!  What in the now conspires!

Devastating defeat could wish I had not tried!

Those tears of remorse, could wish I could hide!

A trouper, I recalled, would, like, practice every day

And then when he lost, just had nothing to say

But tearful at night in the bed, secrecy.

This I observed!  No, it was not the me,

I was the winner in the racing each time!

Training, paratroops, first to cross the line!

Determinations helps and speed!  Oh yes, that too!

Certain sergeant liked to show off, just what he could do,

I beat, was not proud when I looked at him there.

That is when I determined to try out way up there,

Paratroops, of course, with a few others share

Twice the pay!  Sure, that was some incentive!

But slapping the dirt!  Just no preventative!

Then unprecedented activity in heaven we will see!

Visiting all those planets, will take eternity!

Everlasting life for sure, this son will have

Not eternal but everlasting!  Only God has no past!

No past, no beginning.  Do not you know our God always was!

Building our forever, that is not all that He does!

Only God is eternal!  The man beginning had!

Did sin begin with Eve?  Sure, Adam was just as bad,

Condemned to die (the body) no more flesh left to sin!

Just the spirit (soul) will live on and on forever!

We are saved by grace by Christ only through faith, enter in!

A LONGING FOR

I am leaving a legacy not

Appreciated yet.

Might forever be unknown

But by my mindset—

.

.

It is not all that important,

What is important I know

Is when I get to heaven,

I have left something to show—

.

.

My kin, grandchildren, great grand

Children, when I am gone.

Something worthwhile they can read

Lift them up than upon!

.

.

Something reminiscent of

Jesus and His love,

Reminiscent of the Scripture

That lifts our thoughts above—

.

.

The mundane, the frivolous

In contemplation, true,

Of that which satisfies more

Than what we can do!

.

.

I do not want them visiting some

Shrine made from a grave,

I am alive, I am up here!  Not

Down there, not some slave—

.

.

To the chemistry of change

Nothing down there can remind

You of what it is like in heaven

Or what I have left behind.

.

.

Sure, it was pleasant do not you know,

The church that used to be

The many friends, the fellowship,

The love of family…

.

.

Yes, of course, I miss all that

But it is permanent up here!

And all our songs are new now

With no semblance left of fear!

.

.

Many times I can remember,

When the fellowship below

Left a fragrant taste of heaven

Made me long for do not you know.
