WHAT WE TOOK FOR GRANTED

Before we went to India, God loved us.

Before we said “yes”, the same.

Before we were saved His stamp was on us.

Before birth, he knew my name!

.

.

Before I cursed Him, He knew about it!

When I took His Name in vain.

But He bore me up when my legs failed me,

Carried me when I went lame.

.

.

Too independent I recognized Him not,

Thought God was my will, thought I knew

That I could live, thrive, without His care,

Never knew what I would go through.

.

.

Perpendicular the cliff that I clung to,

God got me down, protected me,

Bullets whizzing by, shell fragments missing,

Protection clear, I could not see.

.

.

But now, in retrospect, I see all clearly

His Hand so gently leading on!

I long now to thank Him and to worship!

Stay at His feet through heaven’s song.

.

.

No need to wait till then, I now bow humbly

And worship at His mercy seat!

And when I do, I now can see them clearly,

In worship, nail scars in His feet!

.

.

I saw His Hands, they too bore the nail scars.

I felt Him place them on my head!

“I could never let you go,” He said.  “I promised

Because of you, my blood was shed.”

LOOKING UP

Lord, I am sagging, stooping, stiffening

Need your help to just get on.

“As thy days so shall thy strength be.”

Just what I need to lean upon!

.

.

Look, you will see it, that bright city

Do not need volts or watts or amps.

It is brightness we will get used to

Never need to light the lamps.

.

.

Milk the cows, feed the horse,

Get a move on!  Shake a leg!

Them that do not work do not eat either

Out on the street, learn to beg!

.

.

Do not have to come to attention or

Sleep in water all night long!

Running, dodging twanging bullets

Listening to their fearsome song!

.

.

Now another song I am hearing

As I near that final shore.

Lovely blending harmonizing

Think I have heard that blend before!

.

.

Anniversary fiftieth!

This I will hear in heaven when

My three children, one rare moment,

Repeat performance once again!

ALWAYS THERE

I kept running from Him but He was there.

I kept cursing His name while in His care.

At times He used others to prove His care

But He was there, always there!

.

.

I guess you could call it a fling I had

But whatever you would call it, it was bad.

Like embracing the devil’s every dare

But God was there, always there!

.

.

A cliffhanger really, no foothold near.

No rope to hold me, I truly knew fear

But somehow I made it!  A foothold appeared!

Yes, God was there.  He was there!

.

.

Could ever a friend prove closer than He?

And if there was one I would want Him to be

My constant companion through here or there.

Only God was there, always there!

.

.

Though while having fun or while flying high,

Now this is it!  Now you will surely die!

Would you believe I was in His care?

Yes, He was there, always there!

.

.

With bullets singing their frightening song

And telling your gut, “Bud, you do not have long!”

Through thunderous roar, bombs bursting in air,

God was there, always there!

.

.

So, looking back now I do realize

Around every corner there lay a surprise,

Once more reprieve and not my demise.

God was there, always there!

.

.

Today I wonder, “How could it be?

Why was He there to take care of me?

And give His angels charge over me?

And why is He still always near here?”

Oh yes, He is there, always near!
